PRAISE FOR Purrs Of Wisdom:

Purrs of Wisdom, by Ingrid King, is a treat for anyone who is enchanted by all things feline! The book is an exploration of lessons on living a joyful and inspired life, learned from the many magical cats who have shared the author’s journey.

I found gifts on every page, but the section titled Lessons from a Maple Tree especially touched my heart. The author talks about taking time out of her busy day to soak up the tree’s magnificent colors when the leaves change in the fall. “Doing nothing without feeling guilty” is a lesson she learned from her cats. Ingrid’s words were a gentle reminder to this fast-paced former New Yorker to look to my own kitties for guidance when my world seems to be spinning a bit too quickly.

Purrs of Wisdom is sure to be a treasured addition to any cat lover’s library!”

- Christine Davis, author of For Every Cat An Angel and Forever Paws

“Reading this collection of feline-inspired essays and life lessons gave me several AHA! moments. Purrs of Wisdom is a refreshing read that packs a deceptively powerful punch and provides helpful recipes for finding your bliss. Ingrid King writes with compassion for those who struggle along as “life happens.” The gifted writer offers nearly poetic insight how to manage the angst, as well as to recognize the “why” behind such things. You’ll want to savor each individual chapter and purr-haps bookmark and revisit those that strike a personal chord. And of course, read aloud to your favorite feline companion!”

Purrs of Wisdom is the perfect book for anyone who loves cats – and has an interest in living life to the fullest, with a positive and peaceful outlook – just like a cat does! It spoke to me on several levels and is sure to become a well-thumbed volume as I continue on my life’s journey.”

Review
Brian McGrory has been a writer and an editor for the Boston Globe since 1989 and received both the prestigious Scripps Howard and Sigma Delta Chi awards. It is not the kind of man you would expect an animal story from. Buddy is far from a love story though. You see, Brian hated the bird, so much he wanted to get rid of him on every occasion he got. He just couldn't stand that his family was going all mellow over the bird: they made him birthday cake, kept him in the sofa for a television show, built him a tree house, and generally were the rooster's slave. Turned out though that the rooster could teach him a few lessons - about becoming a leader, being happy with what you got and doing all that you can to be with one family. It sounds mellow, but it isn't. McGrory tackles Buddy with humor, intelligence and honesty. The result is a touching story that will make you laugh, cry and think all at once.

A Christmas Home {book giveaway}

Christmas Home
Today our sponsor Random House is giving away a paperback copy of Greg Kincaid's A Christmas Home to one lucky reader.

If you loved A Dog Named Christmas and Christmas With Tuckerthen this follow-up novel will warm your hearts. The main character from those two books, Todd McGray, now works at the local animal shelter where he has become best friends with Laura. When the shelter closes down, Todd does not only have to find a new job – preferably one that allows him to work with dogs - he also has to look for a permanent home for all the animals left at the shelter.

A Christmas Home is mainly a tale of growing, believing in yourself and following your dreams; but it's also a story about the spirit of Christmas and finding the love of one's life. Some might call the book a bit too simple and predictable, but Kincaid is a master in conveying the love for animals and creating a heart-warming Christmas atmosphere. If you read one Christmas book this year, this is it!

To enter to win a paperback copy of A Christmas Home, leave a comment telling me why you would like to win this book. You can earn extra entries by sharing this post on your blog, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and/or StumbleUpon. Leave a separate comment for each action you took so I can count it accordingly.

The winner will be drawn at random and announced December 14. Contest is open worldwide. Good luck!

Beaphar Tick Away - Giveaway (2 winners)

Beaphar Tick AwayBeaphar Tick Away is a spray that ensures ticks will be removed easily and hygienically. The product will freeze the tick and in most cases the tick will drop from your pet's coat after approximately 15 minutes so you do not have to touch the tick.

The product comes in a handy container of 50 ml that you can take with you during walks in the forest. If the tick has been attached to your pet longer than a few hours, it will often already have a firm grip on your pet's skin. In these cases, Tick Away will still freeze the tick, but you might need to remove the tick manually using tick tweezers. Because Beaphar Tick Away freezes the tick immediately, it does not have to chance to empty it's disease-infected stomach contents into your pet's bloodstream. This will lessen the chance of ticks transmitting infectuous diseases.

Giveaway Details:

Two readers will receive one 50 ml spray of Beaphar Tick Away.  Giveaway is open worldwide and ends May 1, 2012. The winner will be notified by e-mail and has 48 hours to reply back before a new winner will be chosen.

To have a chance at winning, do one or more of the following and post a comment below about each action you took. Each comment will count as a separate entry so your chances of winning increase.
  • Follow this blog through GFC, Facebook, Twitter or Google+
  • Share this giveaway on one or more of your social media

In memory of Ballon

Ballon

We had to say goodbye to Avalon's older brother Ballon today. His liver had stopped functioning properly due to old age and he passed away Sunday night. We loved him as desperately as anyone might love his own child. He wasn't smart (he had the extraordinary capability of missing jumps that were not even as high as he was, even after judging the difficulty for several long minutes), but he was the kindest cat ever to set paw on this planet. Ballon was just shy of seventeen years old. Here are some of his most beautiful pictures.
