We had to say goodbye to Avalon's older brother Ballon today. His liver had stopped functioning properly due to old age and he passed away Sunday night. We loved him as desperately as anyone might love his own child. He wasn't smart (he had the extraordinary capability of missing jumps that were not even as high as he was, even after judging the difficulty for several long minutes), but he was the kindest cat ever to set paw on this planet. Ballon was just shy of seventeen years old. Here are some of his most beautiful pictures.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our Jack Russell who was also very much like a child to us ( even a year older than our oldest daughter so she was always kind of our "first born") I completely understand how hard that is..
The line about him missing his jumps on occasion made me giggle a bit though, as I have a very clumsy cat in my home who does that frequently and then shakes it off as though to say "I meant to do that". They really do have the most fantastic and interesting personalities.

I'm so sorry to hear that Ballon passed away. He was a beautiful kitty! We lost our own standard calico, Tabitha, a little over a year ago when her kidneys failed. She was only 14-years-old. Such a shame kitties grace our lives for so brief a time.

What a sweetie! He looked so precious and cuddly. It's always hard to lose a family pet but I believe they turn into little angels to watch over you when they've moved on.

Onze poes is nu 24 of misschien 24,5 als ze toch een najaarspoes is. Ze heeft geen enkele tand meer. Ze is stokdoof. Ze wast zichzelf niet meer. Dus regelmatig borstelen en wassen. Ze heeft schildklierproblemen, dus elke dag een pil (doet ze niet moeilijk over). Ze heeft staar en ziet dus vogels niet meer zoals vroeger. Die weten dat ook, dus merels lopen rustig op een paar meter langs haar terwijl onze poes dat niet ziet. Vissen bij de vijver interesseert haar ook niet meer. Ze is wel heel gezellig, is gek op kaas en geeft duidelijk aan dat ze wel meer lust! Wil graag op schoot en slaapt erg veel. Ze wordt dement: weet soms niet meer hoe het kattenluik werkt! plast soms voor de kattenbak ipv erin. Toch hoop ik dat ze nog ons nog lang blijft vergezellen!

We lost my 17-year old cat last winter and it was heart-breaking. My husband and I had the cat longer than we had been married. Sorry for your loss. I know that it is no little loss.
